Laura Linney is an American actor who has become popular for her portrayal of strong but vulnerable characters. Born to a renowned playwright father, but being raised by a single mother who worked as a nurse, she began to take an interest in theater while having summers spent with her father then pursuing acting studies, initially at Brown University and then at Juilliard School. The actress began her Broadway career soon after completing her degree, and then made her television debut the following year. Since then, she has been in numerous films as well as stage and TV productions. She's been nominated for three Oscar Awards, five Tony Awards, and four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), as well as received numerous awards over her career. In spite of her many nominations, she has a passion for the theatre, and has appeared on stage and screen.
